The "Brea - ca' mia" is Brovia's oldest vineyard, as well as the most powerful. This vineyard was planted in 1955 and is located in Serralunga D'Alba, which is known for Barolo with power. Even though it is young, and will last a long time in the cellar, this wine has such an intensity of aromatics it's like "The Wall of Sound." If there is one terroir you want to see ten years down the road from Brovia this is it!

This wine is singing loud! Matrot's wines, both red and white, can be powerful and backward in their youth. Their Corton-Charlemagne can take yours before even expressing a little bit of its personality. Their reds had been the same for a long time but in many cases even more austere. When you take the already backward wines coming from Beaune, which are beautiful but can be polarizing, and you add that to Matrot's power it would be hard to drink for a long while. That has changed! A new approach to the reds has made them much more approachable in a handful of years vs. a decade. This great premier cru is the perfect example of how power can combine with elegance. Blagny is a hamlet within Meursault. There is the Meursault-Blagny white, but for Pinot Noir, it is called "Blagny". The same mineral soil that gives the wine intensity for reds and white is at the heart of this one. At six years of age, it is showing its ample fruit, mineral texture, and some newer wood to round it all out. A drinker and a keeper.

One of the most incredible, yet unknown varieties in Piemonte is Ruchè  - pronounced ROO-kay. Why is it so incredible you ask? Because while it has floral, spice, and fruit notes, it is fruit-forward and dry at the same time – while also having a sense of freshness. All of those things make a total package that has you wanting to eat salumi for days. It can be like a still, dry version of insane Lambrusco. What else can I say - it's just a happy wine! Monferrato is where the best are from, and Zoppi Cristina is the Maestro!

Vega Sicilia is a winery that really needs no introduction. It is lauded as one of the greatest wines in Spain, and typically on collectors' top ten lists of greatest wine experiences that they have ever had. A few decades ago they expanded with the winery Alion, in Ribera del Duero. An entirely new estate, as Vega Sicilia doesn't believe in second wines. These masters of Tempranillo then went further down the Duero river into the little-known appellation of Toro. What was known though was that the Tinto del Toro, tempranillo, was powerful and mighty in this region. They not only put the region on the map, but they also grabbed the Toro by the horns. Pintia is now heralded as all the other wines from Vega Sicilia - Stunning!

Depending on the characteristics of the vintage, the barrels are 70% French or 30% American oak in origin, and the wine remains there for approximately 12  to 15 months, before being bottled. The time in the bottle will never be under 12 months prior to the wine being released on the market, as the accumulated experience indicates that that rest makes the wine blossom. 2016 has gotten praise from all over as one of the purest examples from this winery. We are lucky to get 12 bottles of the only few hundred cases which come to the United States.

It’s not often you get a 15-year-old wine released from the winery in a perfect window of drinking, AND it can age seamlessly for another 15. When you add that to the fact that it’s coming from one of the greatest estates in Rioja, it’s icing on the cake! Remelluri has been shepherding change from the old “house styles” of Rioja made by most wineries to the single-plot style of winemaking to showcase their terruño – or sense of place. How about adding a wine for the cellar, or the table?

Sandrone should be spelled "SandrOOOOOHHHHHHne" because it has brought OH so many good times. Their Cannubi Boschis brought Luciano Sandrone's winery to fame, which is now a wine called "Aleste", but being so rooted in tradition it is their "Le Vigne" that really showcases their style. Le Vigne honors the blending tradition of Barolo. It is blended with grapes from Castiglione, Novello, Barolo, and Serralunga. Each commune adds its own piece to the symphony. Castiglione imparts fragrance, Novello and Barolo elegance, and Serralunga the backbone. Together they make a harmonious medley that comprises Le Vigne. To me, the telltale character from Sandrone is a dried dark cherry element that combines with dried roses, and a long, fresh finish. 2017 is a powerhouse! This could be labeled as a cru from Serralunga it has so much intensity. A great wine for the cellar.

There are only a few artist labels that are synonymous with greatness and they are Mouton Rothschild, and our current offering Montevertine's "Le Pergole Torte." This single small production wine from one of the world's greatest is one of the most sought-after in the world. Since its first release in 1977 the elegant watercolors by Alfredo Mandfredi have represented pure elegance in the bottle - and it is equally timeless. It is 100% Sangiovese from Radda, in Chianti. Fermented in Concrete, and then aged in a small amount of Allier barrique, with the rest being in Slavionian oak. This gem will be an amazing addition to the cellar, and both the bottle and the wine will be a topic of conversation for years to come.

When we talk about the best real estate the higher up you go the better you are generally speaking, but not so with Burgundy. Most of the best sites are in the middle of the slope, perfect for soil and temperature...this is definitely something that is changing. The tops of the slopes have traditionally been too cool, and broken soils tended to produce wines slated as simple Bourgogne. However, one of Burgundy's famed producers has been producing from a Monopole vineyard that has been a standout for years. With climate change more and more are investing in this area, but Méo-Camuzet has been rooted here because they knew! This Chardonnay is from the top of the slope that looks over the most heralded vineyards in Burgundy - right above Échézeaux. It has richness and freshness, crisp minerality, and the perfect toasty balance of oak. LIke all of their wines, this is a Méo-Camuzet you need to grab now!

Jean Foillard is the shepherd of Morgan. Every year releasing wines that are so incredibly stellar, and when compared to the top domaines in Burgundy we wonder how they are so accessible with their prices. They not only have amazing flavor but incredible ageworhtiness. This wine and the rare "Pi" can go a decade or more.

"This estate comprises nearly fourteen hectares. Foillard’s Morgons are deep, structured, and complex, with a velvety lushness that makes them irresistible when young despite their aging potential. Jean raises his wines in older barrels sourced from top estates in Burgundy, a logical decision for someone crafting Gamay in a Burgundian style. It is the passion and dedication of vignerons like this that have brought pride back to the crus of the Beaujolais."

These holdings allow Jean to make some of the best wines in the appellation. The "Cuvée Corcelette" is a vineyard located on sandstone that gives the wines great depth, and power. I have had examples fifteen years old that are still babies, yet when I drink this wine young I always smile. The complexity blows me away every time I pull a cork. The nineteen is no different - it has all the stuffing you could want like a stocking on Christmas morning.

Brovia is a property that you have seen a lot of on our releases. Our very first release was the Brovia Barolo 2017, and it sold out in minutes - literally. The "Normal" Barolo is always released before their single-vineyard wines, and now we have the great fortune to offer you the small amount we receive. This is the Rocche di Castiglione vineyard, which is situated closer to Castiglione Falleto. This is the most fragrant of all their single-vineyard wines and showcases all the great aromatics of Nebbiolo while in its youth. Brovia always is a great indicator of what is happening in the corner of Barolo which covers Serralunga D'Alba, and into Castiglione - the power region next to the elegant one, respectively. The Rocche has Star anise, underbrush, potpourri, and spice which makes this a heavenly wine to drink in a few years while you are letting the bigger vineyards age more in the cellar.

Rocche di Castiglione is known for elegance and aromatics, Brea is known for its shear strength and power, and Villero is widely accepted as the total package of the Brovia single-vineyard wines. It is truly a rare thing when the words "widely accepted" are used for one wine. Many can agree, but most argue over better, best, etc... However, we tend to agree with that sentiment. The Villero has the richness of the Brea but is not over-the-top. It also has the beautiful aromas which the Rocche has, but is a little more refined. A comparison I would use is I think of the Villero as the "Everlasting Gobstopper" of Brovia. It has all those attributes, but not at once. It is a wine that is forever changing, and you will feel like you are listening to a great playlist whenever you choose to drink it.

François is a master of the terroirs in Givry, one of the appellations in the Côtes Châlonnaise. This region has never had full recognition of the great wines that are produced here, and François is truly poised to show his friends to the north in the Côte d'Or that Givry is alive and kicking. This single plot Chardonnay has crisp fruit and an amazing chalky minerality which is reminiscent of great Chablis. It is aged for a year in wood, only 30% of which is new, and this wraps it up in a perfect little bow of balance. Givry will have its recognition, but until then we can still get Lumpp's great whites!
