For the first time ever, Sauvignon Blanc is having success globally, not just in the wines of Marlborough, New Zealand. Many people's palates have moved to fresher varieties and styles of winemaking instead of the rich, concentrated, heavily oaked white wines. We see that in the shop, as more people are drinking crisp varieties from Italy, Greece, Austria, Germany, and France. Included in France is the true home of great Sauvignon Blanc - the Loire Vally.

Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé are the gold standards for the purest examples of Sauvignon Blanc with both fruit and mineral intensity. Sancerre has pure chalk Kimmeridgian soil which gives its zing-like texture. Just across the way is Pouilly-Fumé, which also has the beautiful Kimmeridgian soil but also flint mixed in. This additional layer of soil adds a great intensity level to the knows - one which is like using a firestarter while camping.

Régis Minet is a second-generation winemaker at what was his family's estate and is now his own. With forty harvests of experience, he knows the land and has the ability to morph with the years. In a time when many are pushing ripeness to fit into a specific profile, he works the wine to fit the land - keeping true to the classics of the region. His wines have intensity, a lean, dry citrus rind character, along with a zip of terroir which almost makes the center of your tongue numb. In my years of building wine lists, it is a wine that has always been a staple because it is such a standout from the Loire - period. Another perfect porch sipper which goes with all the amazing spring and summer vegetables, any type of goat cheese, and yummy smoked fish.

It's a pity there aren't any Grand Cru in Nuits-St. George, because Chevillon would have a large portfolio of the best wines in the appellation. The Chaignot is known for its power and fragrance, but the best thing about the first part is that this wine is from 2015 so it has shed its cloak of youthful tannin and can be consumed right now - or thrown it down in the cellar a while.

All the fragrance and minerality of Volnay, along with the dark-fruited power of Corton! We love offering wines straight from the domaine with some age so you can drink up now. As always most of these can spend more time in the cellar, but with seven years of age already the cork can be pulled now and happily enjoyed!

When many hear "Beaujolais," they only think of the historical pink bubblegum juice flown on the Concorde on the third Thursday of November. Definitely not what we are talking about here. Beaujolais in the past decade underwent a revolution, with many new wineries and a massive leap in quality. Today, the region is not only one of the best values globally; there are many world-class examples capable of long-term aging.

This premier cru vineyard is within Savigny but is right above the village of Pernand - running contiguous with Pernand Vergelesses. Marl and limestone soil gives this wine fragrance and power. This is the only red that undergoes 80% whole cluster because the one tank used for their small plot isn’t big enough to ferment 100% whole cluster.

We obviously love Syrah - a lot. Both founders of 411 have many acres of Syrah planted in Walla Walla. When not drinking the great wines of Washington, we always look to the Rhone Valley, to Cote Rotie, Hermitage, and St Joseph. St Joseph might not be at the top of everyone's lips regarding the best Syrah appellations. Truth be told, unlike Cote Rotie and Hermitage, some St Joseph sites are sub-par. The region is large, twisting and turning as it follows the Rhone river south. Many vineyards are simply planted in the wrong spot  - on lesser soils or facing the wrong direction. So quality is variable. However, another class of St Joseph exists. Grown in the right place, most likely at the most southern end of the appellation, near Hermitage,  the wines rival or exceed the best of the Northern Rhone's most famous areas.

SKU: Thierry Allemand "Reynard" Cornas

To add to our rarities today we offer you one of the most sought-after red wines from the Northern Rhône - Thierry Allemand Cornas "Chaillot". The Chaillot is comprised of vines from Chaillot, as well as some of the "Younger" vines from Reynard. Younger is a relative term, as the average age of vines going into this bottling is 40 years old. The Reynard vineyard is substantially older than that if that is any indication of Thierry's vines' ages. Those who know Allemand can rest assured you can't find this many places. We get our special few bottles and pass them along to you. These go for decades and have been some of our best wine experiences ever.

Olivier Mornin is one of those really cool people that is an outlier, in both vineyard locations and what he is doing. He has vineyards located outside of Chablis, and all over the Yonne. Even though many of those wines are designated as "Bourgogne" they are far from it. Aligoté is usually treated simply in both winemaking and consumption. It is the wine behind the "Kir", as it was so tart that people would add currant liqueur. But, when it is handled like any other great grape it can shine. Since it is an outlier you will never have to pay great appellation prices. This wine has intense citrus, green apple, and quince flavors, with great minerality coming from the terroir that is in his vineyards - which also happens to be the same great chalk of Chablis. This wine has become a favorite of many in the shop and we felt it was our duty to show it to you. This is the next house wine for you!

Charlopin-Tissier is one of our favorite wineries here at the shop and has been on a previous offering. We love the quality of the wines, as they are at a level that rivals the best Burgundy has to offer. Yann's winemaking is on par with the great, because he learned from one of them - Fourrier. It was Fourrier who wanted Yann to purchase David Clarke's winery, and since then Yann has raised the level so high. Marsannay is famous for great rosé, some red, and whites here and there from a few producers - primarily the Clair family. Yann is doing them proud too, as his wines are raising the level of this small region in the Côtes de Nuits. This wine has great characteristics you see in Puligny, with freshness, flint and earth, and some toasty notes to round it all out!

A traditionalist Barbaresco with an impeccable pedigree! Thankfully still a part of the "unknown" or "in-the-know" community - so it is still an incredible deal. Single Cru. Double Digits. Brilliant!
